I just got a call from JJ’s vet to let me know that his kidney panel came back and was much improved. I can only remember the BUN (Blood Ureic Nitrogen or similar) which came down from 390 on Wed to about 185 today. This is similar to the number from Monday; I am a bit afraid that the stress of travel to Gainesville created the spike and that the improvement is illusory. Apparently the high end of normal for BUN is 27 so he’s got a long way to go. Both the BUN and Creatinine are about half as horrible as Wed. The vet doesn’t normally see appetite returning until somewhere south of 75. They are considering a couple of options to encourage him to eat.
They are increasing the fluids and continuing the antibiotics. The results of the cultures from Wed should be in some time today so should shed some light on the type of bug and the appropriateness of the antibiotics being used.
I will be called twice a day over the weekend but I don’t expect any actual news until Monday when the surgeon re-examines his wounds.
