JJ had his appointment with the internal medicine folks in Gainesville this morning and the news is not so good.

His bloodwork shows that his Kidney function values have elevated again. His BUN today is 104 (again the top of normal is 27ish; he has ranged from a high of 390 when he was admitted to a low of 30ish when he was sent home).

He has not eaten well for the last week and that is probably because his values are so elevated. Apparently anything over about 75 acts as an appetite suppressant.

The Resident vet feels that JJ has transitioned from an acute renal failure mode to a more chronic condition. After discussions with Dr. Goldcamp and Dr. Wallace (thanks Wendy) we decided to put in a temporary feeding tube. The goal is to get him on stable, adequate, nutrition and fluids and then recheck the bloodwork and try to determine where his kidney function really is. At that point we should have a better idea about his longer term prognosis.

The best possible scenario has his weight increasing while his BUN decreases making him strong enough to push through these difficulties. This may not be the most likely; I must continue to visualize it.

Thanks for all of your support.
